Beyond Help!

Hi there everybody,

you might already think that this topic is kinda useless, but I'm sure that some people will appreciate this to get some better angles. It's been a while since I'm making angles now and due to the fact that most of the people liked my angles, I decided to make a topic about it. Most of the times I'm really flattered to hear such a nice words about my angles, but after some time I'm getting used to it. I don't want to say that I'm just the best in this because I'm not. It's just that I kinda feel good making angles and it seems that you guys like them.
Anyway, instead of telling a whole story about this, I'd rather want to get to the point from this. In the meanwhile you'll all know that I'm talking about 'angling'.
I don't really know from everybody how you guys are making your angles. Anyway, I do know that there are different ways to make one. In this 'tutorial' I will use my own way when aiming for an angle. You might not be used with this, but I think it's quite easy.

1) I don't think you guys are wondered if I say that the first step I'm doing, is opening TM. Going to 'editor', 'edit replay' and 'edit' gets you into the Mediatracker.

2) The second step for me is deleting every single part from the bar, except the timeline and the ghost. It's just some standard procedure from me.

3) After doing that, I'm adding a custom cam to the bar. Stretch it over the whole timeline and place a key at a random place.

4) Select the key and now comes the handy trick.

== I don't know how you guys get your cam on a specific place, but here's how it goes for me. Several times, I became quite angry that, playing around with the arrows to get a good angle, was quite annoying. Why? Well, if you did had a nice place it happened that the cam was just a bit too close or too far from you. Though, if you follow the next steps, you won't have that problem anymore. I did heard from some people that they play with the 'X' & 'Y' setting from the camera, but that's too much work guys =

4.1) While the key is selected, play with the arrows to see if you find a nice angle somewhere. This is just the rough part from the angle. Okay, no you do have a rough view from what you want as angle. Though, I guess that you want your angle more perfect and probably some slight changes on it, not?

4.2) Now we're going to step on to the fine angling: instead of moving forward/backward to get the perfect view, use the '+'-button (to make the cam go faster) or the '-'-button to make the cam go slower. By doing this, you can get your angle exactly like you want to have it. Believe me, in this way your angling skills will improve from time to time, just like I did with mine.

== Well, I don't know if somebody already knew it from the '-' & '+'-button, but it's a really handy trick to make angles. People could also use it in intro's, ingame MT and outro's I guess ==

5) You do have your angle now the way you want to have it, not? Shooting it like you got it now would be a bit too boring and static. There's one thing left that you could do (at least in my routine) and that's tilting (turning) the angle a bit. This is not the easiest step because if you turn it the wrong way, your angle can be ruined.

Here are some things you should keep in mind:
- in tech tracks, a way too tilted angle doesn't look good, though it can be intermediate
- for FS-tracks, a slightly tilted angle works most of the times, except when you aim to get an angle in a loop or at a wallride
- on PX-tracks, it doesn't really matter about the tilting, especially since you go all the way around in such a tracks.

Below are 2 images to let you see how a wrong tilted angle can look boring beside a good tilted one.
(the first one is much better than the second one, though they're both quickies and far from perfect. They're made as an example to show you how important tilting can be. Why the left one? Because it gives you a better view on the track and scenery and it also feels better. About the feeling, that's something you have or not in my eyes)

~~ I might add more tips later on, but here you go for today ~~

Nice ^^
I wanted to do a tutorial for angles but it seemed hard to explain ^^
Imo, the bottom pic is better the top one shows the best the scenery of course but it's a bit too messy imo (with that arrow especially ^^). I prefer when it clearly shows a nice part of the scenery.

Exactly what I was about to write.
The second looks better, the car is too vertical in the first imo and as eti said the left part looks pretty messy.
The angle of the car shouldn't exceed 45° if you ask me, but it's a matter of taste. ^^

Otherwise it's a great tutorial, I learnt some cool stuffs.
Thanks !

Zimmer Racer!

hey, nice tut here!
I didn't know about the + - shortcuts, I do it an other way :

I go into replay, then I delete all bars except timeline and ghost(s)

Then I switch too freecam mode (by clicking on the icon just under the export button) to get a good angle, the freecam (I don't know if you call i that way in english, I'm traslating from french) is much more precise and moves very slowly if you just hit the arrowkeys. (the only pb is that you can't tilt the free cam)

Then I add a custom cam, switch back to clip camera mode and the keys of the clip are at the same place ass the freecam.,

The I put the tilt and shoot.
