It has been ten years since the original VIRTUAL INSANITY was published. Now here's a sequel, again an old school platform-like trial. Focused on technical driving and gathering enough speed to make the next jump.

RARELY ASKED QUESTIONS



Why make a sequel?
I actually started building this track way before I stopped playing for a couple of years. Most of the checkpoints I made in 2012. When I came back in 2018, I found the rough layout, and made some tweaks to some of the parts.

Is it harder than the first?
While based on the same idea of technical driving and hitting the best driving line, it is a bit more old school in the sense that it's mainly based on regular road blocks. Also, in VI checkpoints were mainly focused on making a single jump, while here you often have to smoothly handle a short series of transitions. In the end I'd say it's slightly harder to finish with few respawns, but it's no extreme trial.

Is it based on luck or skill?
I tried to make a platform/trial purely based on skill. Still, sometimes you have ramm-bugs or unlucky transitions. But with some practice it is definitely possible to finish it with few respawns. My validation time is just over 11 minutes, and I needed the following amount of respawns per checkpoint. So there's definitely room for improvement.

– CP0: 0 respawns
– CP1: 2 respawn
– CP2: 1 respawns
– CP3+4: 12 respawns
– CP5: 22 respawns
– CP6: 13 respawns
– CP7: 1 respawn

Are there any cuts?
VI is quite peculiar for the fact that it contains various cuts, even though the fastest route is still the intended one. For VI2, I have definitely tried hard to prevent any cuts. Nevertheless, while it is in some places possible to get on the road of subsequent checkpoints, it is not of any use, nor is it easier than the regular way.

Apparently I can't seem to get away. :-)

What's next?
I have loads of ideas for new tracks, and VI3 is not off the table. But first I will finish some RPG and trial maps I have been working on for quite some time now.

simo, you make me blush. So nice to know that you enjoyed VI back in the days. And I thoroughly enjoy the maps you make as well, although I only discovered them after my long break.
